Year

2016 - 2018

For nearly 3 years, I worked as Marketing Manager at Uozu Lighting, a young lighting design startup with an ambitious international positioning. I developed the marketing strategy from the ground up, led the content strategy for Chinese social media, organised events across China and Italy, and established a strategic partnership with an Italian architecture studio.

My responsibilities

Background
As Marketing Manager at Uozu Lighting, I led the marketing strategy for a new high-end lighting brand targeting architecture and real estate clients in China. The challenge was to differentiate in a crowded market: Chinese lighting brands often competed on price with limited brand differentiation, while established German and Italian brands offered strong design credentials at a price point that could be out of reach for many developers.

Insight
I identified Uozu’s opportunity in combining the design language and brand affinity of Italian design with the strong production and operational capabilities of its Chinese manufacturing base. To build credibility at the higher end of the market, I focused on making this positioning tangible through the brand itself. I commissioned a new identity with Italian design studio Studio Bulbo and established an early partnership with architecture studio Archea Associati, who became both art directors and product designers. These partnerships provided the brand with distinctive creative equity and helped move it beyond being perceived simply as a lighting manufacturer.

Execution
I developed the long-term marketing strategy from the ground up, defining the SWOT, value proposition, target segments and positioning, and translating these into a content and business development strategy. This included a Chinese social media strategy across WeChat, targeted events in Beijing and Shanghai, participation in Milan Design Week, brand presentations at clients’ premises and the development of strategic design partnerships. Combined with targeted business development, these efforts helped Uozu build awareness and credibility in the market and contributed to its selection for high-profile projects including the Bulgari Hotel Shanghai, the Xi'An Grand Hyatt, the Hilton corporate office in Shanghai and a number of Gucci stores in China.
